Joining forces with Pulitzer Prize winning composer Caroline Shaw, soprano Dawn Upshaw, and pianist Gil Kalish, So Percussion seeks New Music USA support to complete a recording and film of Shaw’s 2017 work ‘Narrow Sea’. Featuring new settings of texts from The Sacred Harp (a collection of American shape note hymns first published in 1844), the work is at once contemporary and deeply traditional, forward looking and nostalgic – blending modern sounds and sensibilities with spiritual grace and deeply held conviction.
