JOURNEY AL(L)ONE for solo violin by American composer DOUGLAS HEDWIG (b. 1951) will receive its World Premiere on May 15, 2024 as part of the official opening of the International Center for American Music (ICAMus) in Prato, Italy. The soloist will be the celebrated Italian violinist Alberto Bologni, and the work is dedicated to Aloma Bardi, President, ICAMus.

“Journey Al(l)one” was inspired by the concept of “musical polysensoriality” (synesthesia), with particular emphasis on the idea of relating color to compositional form and thematic development.

ICAMus will be the first European institute/library/archive solely devoted to American music. Dr. Douglas Hedwig has been invited to submit his entire musical archives to the new Center for cataloging, exhibition and permanent holding, including musical scores (both published and manuscript), compositional drafts, recordings, reviews, letters and other correspondence, as well as various documents, CD’s and LP’s related to his performance career as a professional trumpet player (Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, 27 years, plus over 40 commercially released recordings on major labels). Hedwig’s work will be featured at the Inaugural event on May 18.
