The Friday Informer: Bad Boys, Bad Boys (of Classical Music)

If we learned anything from COPS, it’s that you can’t commit a crime in America while wearing a shirt. That applies even to orchestra patrons, apparently, and we’ve got it on tape.

Earlier in the week, the media was throwing a bit of flashbulb our way after the discovery that there may indeed be quite a crop of highly fashionable young classical music stars out there and also over there. However, a good ol’ fist fight in the balcony (live action footage here) is what really gets the news wires humming. Perhaps they were expecting Saturday Night Fiedler?

I found the whole COPS-style brawl at the symphony hall rather shocking. We fight like civilized people at my house—though I suspect when really irritated I could find one of these pretty useful. And maybe if I was confronted by one of those musicologists they talk about on TV or a heroin-addicted opera composer (or even a blogger with a libretto), I’d change my tune. I bet dating dead composers cuts down on the day-to-day bickering. Something to consider.

Speaking of bloggers at the opera, Robert tries his hand at live blogging his fav composer’s latest, and it’s the end of the innocence for Soho the Dog after he uncovers the bigger-than-Rzewski influence of music in politics. The musicians union might want to tag team with that lobby if present experiments are an accurate reflection of future trends.

Marc is judging Opera Idol tonight in Chicago, so look for the drag queen (no, not him, the other dude) and go say hello.

Did you get anything out of this?
