Honoring Phyllis Mills, Missy Mazzoli, and Ellen Reid
Now in its third year, New Music USA’s Table for 100 brings new music lovers together with some of the most compelling creators and champions in our community. This year, we are proud to honor three extraordinary leaders whose work is shaping the future of new music: Phyllis Mills, visionary philanthropist and steadfast supporter of our field; composer Ellen Reid, whose expansive and immersive works are redefining how audiences experience sound; and Missy Mazzoli, a composer whose bold, genre-defying voice has transformed contemporary classical music. Each honoree’s impact has helped build a stronger, more inclusive, and vibrant new music ecosystem.
Table for 100 offers an unforgettable evening where generosity meets creativity. Attendees enjoy unparalleled interaction with visionary artists and cultural leaders, unique performances, meaningful conversation, and the joy of knowing that their support directly fuels the future of new music.
The evening’s host will be brand strategist and arts executive Kori Coleman, who serves as Program Coordinator for our New Music Inc. – Chicago program. Deborah Borda, Jennifer Koh, and George Lewis will present our honorees with their awards.

She has been a devoted supporter of the New York Philharmonic, where her generosity has helped advance artistic excellence, education initiatives, and a renewed commitment to living composers. Her involvement reflects a belief in the enduring value of music and the importance of ensuring its accessibility for future generations.
Phyllis is recognized for her thoughtful, steady leadership and her dedication to cultural institutions such as the Marlboro Festival, New Music USA, New York Youth Symphony, and the Mary Flagler Cary Charitable Trust. Her support continues to have a lasting impact on the organizations she champions and the communities they serve.
About Ellen Reid

Credit: James Matthew Daniel
Ellen Reid is one of the most innovative artists of her generation. An American composer and sound artist whose breadth of work spans opera, sound design, film scoring, avant-pop, ensemble and choral writing. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in Music for her opera, p r i s m, in 2019. Reid’s orchestral work has been performed by the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among many others.
Reid created Ellen Reid SOUNDWALK, a GPS-enabled work of public art that reimagines urban parks as interactive soundscapes. SOUNDWALK premiered in New York’s Central Park, and continues to expand to urban parkland around the world, including Los Angeles’ Griffith Park, London’s Regent’s Park & Primrose Hill, and Tokyo’s Ueno Park.
Reid is known for her dynamic, lyrical film scores, and she has worked with A24, Amazon Studios, and the Duplass Brothers Productions. Her work has been featured at film festivals including SXSW, IFC Fest, TriBeCa Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival. Her concert work was also an inspiration for artist Alex Prager’s short film RUN.
In 2016, Reid co-founded Luna Composition Lab with composer Missy Mazzoli. The organization provides mentorship, education, and resources for young female, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming composers ages 13-18, and is the only initiative of its kind in the United States.
Born in Oak Ridge Tennessee in 1983, Ellen Reid received her BFA from Columbia University and her MA from California Institute of the Arts. Ellen Reid has served as the Contemporary Music Chair of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and she was the first composer to be in residence with both Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw Concert Hall and Concertgebouw Orchestra simultaneously. Ellen Reid’s music is exclusively published by Chester Music, part of the Wise Music Group. She continues to live and work in New York City and Los Angeles.
About Missy Mazzoli

Credit: Shervin Lainez
Recently deemed “one of the more consistently inventive, surprising composers now working in New York” (NY Times), “Brooklyn’s post-millennial Mozart” (Time Out NY), and praised for her “apocalyptic imagination” (Alex Ross, The New Yorker), Missy Mazzoli has had her music performed by the Kronos Quartet, LA Opera, eighth blackbird, the BBC Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, Scottish Opera and many others.
In 2018 she became, along with Jeanine Tesori, one of the first woman to receive a main stage commission from the Metropolitan Opera, and was nominated for a Grammy award in the category of “Best Classical Composition”. She is currently the Mead Composer-in-Residence at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and from 2012-2015 was Composer-in-Residence with Opera Philadelphia. Her 2018 opera Proving Up, created with longtime collaborator librettist Royce Vavrek and based on a short story by Karen Russell, is a surreal commentary on the American dream. It was commissioned and premiered by Washington National Opera, Opera Omaha and Miller Theatre, and was deemed “harrowing… a true opera for its time” by the Washington Post.
Her 2016 opera Breaking the Waves, commissioned by Opera Philadelphia and Beth Morrison Projects, was called “one of the best 21st-century American operas yet” by Opera News. Breaking the Waves received its European premiere at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival; future performances are planned at LA Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and the Adelaide Festival. Her next opera, The Listeners, will premiere in 2021 at the Norwegian National Opera and Opera Philadelphia. In 2016, Missy and composer Ellen Reid founded Luna Lab, a mentorship program for young female composers created in partnership with the Kaufman Music Center. Her works are published by G. Schirmer. missymazzoli.com
