Seeking additional $50K in match funding by Feb 28

New Music USA partners with Sony Music Group, The Amphion Foundation,The Cheswatyr Foundation, The ASCAP Foundation, and the BMI Foundation, to support individual music creators in a time of deep need.

New York, NY (February 4, 2021) – Just weeks after the application deadline closed for the New Music Creator Development Fund, New Music USA welcomes five new partners, who are helping to support the many artists requesting grants from this fund.

Thanks to generous contributions from Sony Music Group, The Amphion Foundation, The Cheswatyr Foundation, The ASCAP Foundation, and the BMI Foundation, New Music USA continues to expand its support for music creators and composers in these times of deep need.

The New Music Creator Development Fund was established in November 2020, with $100,000 in funding from New Music USA’s annual grants budget. During the one-month application period, over 1,100 creators submitted applications requesting help to continue with their collaborative artistic work.

To offer support to more of these individual artists, New Music USA seeks to raise $100,000 in match funding, with the goal of increasing the total allocation of funds to $200,000 or more. The new contributions from Sony Music Group, The Amphion Foundation, The Cheswatyr Foundation, The ASCAP Foundation, and the BMI Foundation bring New Music USA halfway to this ambitious partner funding goal.

Vanessa Reed, President and CEO of New Music USA, says,

“This fall, New Music USA received more than twice as many funding applications as we might expect in a less extraordinary year. Responding to this need must be our priority, as we all continue to navigate through this shifting landscape. We are so grateful for the support of our peers, community members, and new partners, whose donations make it possible for us to have a bigger impact in a time when creativity and collaboration are more important than ever.”

ABOUT THE FUND

The New Music Creator Development Fund offers grants to individual music creators who need support to get to the next stage of their creative practice in the context of the challenging circumstances created by COVID-19. The program supports costs related to artistic collaboration in these times of social isolation, enabling music creators to lead the development of new and existing ideas and projects. Priority is given to artists in need – especially BIPOC and other under-represented artists. The fund aims to stimulate creativity and collaboration between music creators and artists from any discipline, and build community in response to the restrictions we are all facing, particularly in the performing arts.
