Written for Talea: Cheung, Sorey, Karchin premieres

Details

Talea performs world premieres by Anthony Cheung, Louis Karchin, and Tyshawn Sorey as a part of “Written for Talea” on Tuesday, March 28 at 7:30pm at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music. “Written for Talea” has become an annual tradition for the ensemble, featuring premieres and works we recently commissioned.

Anthony Cheung’s work, “Clocks for Seeing,” conjures sounds and reflections of early modes of timekeeping and photography. Louis Karchin’s ‘s new song cycle, “Tribute to the Angels,” features soprano Jennifer Zetlan and takes texts from Trilogy, a cycle of poems by Hilda Doolittle (H.D.) emanating from the poet’s first-hand experience of the “blitz” in WWII. Tyshawn Sorey’s “For Wayne Shorter (in memoriam)” pays tribute to the jazz saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter, who passed away earlier this month.
