The Lily of Quito, a cantata
The Lily of Quito, an approximately 40-minute cantata by New York composer-soprano Dr. Stephanie Susberich, receives its New York premiere at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola on October 28, 2026. Based almost entirely on the documented words of seventeenth-century Ecuadorian mystic St. Mariana de Jesús de Paredes, the work features Susberich in the title role with Scott Warren conducting, Kathleen Supové at the piano, the Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola, the Park Avenue Consort, and a newly composed grand finale for solo soprano, 24-voice double choir, pipe organ, percussion, and chamber ensemble. The program also includes works by Joaquín Rodrigo and Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla.
