Established in 2019, the Summer Residency for New Music week is designed to foster the creative work of composers in the early stages of their careers. During the residency, composers will have opportunities to collaborate on new projects with the musicians of Ensemble Dal Niente, attend lectures, and receive feedback on their work from DePaul University School of Music composition faculty members Osnat Netzerand Christopher Wendell Jones, as well as a guest composer. Past guests for the residency include distinguished composers Carola Bauckholt, Hilda Paredes, and Wang Lu.

Each participant accepted to the residency will be invited to compose a quartet with an assigned instrumentation for Ensemble Dal Niente. Over the course of the week, the ensemble will rehearse each piece twice, giving participants the opportunity to interact with the musicians, and receive feedback on their work. Recordings of each session will be made available to the composers. The week culminates with participants having their works premiered by the ensemble in a pair of concerts.

The program is open to all current undergraduate and graduate-level student composers.
