SCENES FROM THE POST-DIASPORA: BLACKBOX ENSEMBLE PERFORMS CHEUNG, MOCHIZUKI, AND THE US PREMIERE OF BALDWIN GIANG’S PIPA BOY

BlackBox Ensemble and the American Academy in Rome present SCENES FROM THE POST-DIASPORA, a program constructed around the relationship between the passing of time, futurity, and the East Asian diaspora. The evening features two works by recent Rome Prize-winner Baldwin Giang: the song cycle butterfly, posthumously and the US Premiere of PIPA BOY, a 20-minute multimedia work made in collaboration with filmmakers from Taipei, Rome, and Philadelphia, featuring renowned pipa soloist Yang Jin. Rounding out the program are stunning works by two of Giang’s teachers, Anthony Cheung (Clocks for Seeing) and Misato Mochizuki (Suikinkutsu, US Premiere).
