ROREM at 100 – A Concert Celebration with clarinetist Thomas Piercy

A celebration of the music of Ned Rorem. Rorem would have turned 100 on October 23, 2023. October 22, 2023 at 6pm. This concert was planned last year as Rorem approached his 99th birthday. He was so excited thinking about being 100. Unfortunately, he died a few weeks after his 99th birthday. This is not a memorial, but a celebration of his music and friendship and enduring legacy and influence in the music world and beyond. The concert will include instrumental and vocal pieces by Mr. Rorem, and a selection of pieces that his former students wrote for Thomas Piercy in honor of Rorem's 90th birthday celebration in 2013. Joining Mr. Piercy will be soprano and former Met Opera star Carole Farley, pianist Marina Iwao, violinist Eiko Kano, and cellist Aaron Wolff. The concert will be at Martha Graham Studios where one of Ned's first jobs in NYC was playing piano for Martha's classes.
