Protests In Jazz:

A Presentation of Protest Music in Jazz with Carl Michel & Tribute

Sound and Resistance! Jazz musicians have historically taken a stance on injustice in their time. Resistance music articulates both frustration and hope for freedom, justice, and peace. Join us, in solidarity, for an evening of performing and listening to jazz protest music. We pay tribute to jazz greats Charles Mingus (Fables of Faubus), Charlie Haden (Sardino), Sonny Rollins (Freedom Suite), Abdullah Ibrahim (Peace), Horace Silver (Peace), and others, plus original instrumental compositions, vocals, and poetry.

The Tribute Band Features:

Alex Coke (tenor sax/flutes)

Andre Hayward (trombone)

Carl Michel (guitar/arranger)

Carolyn Trowbridge (vibes)

Daniel Durham (upright bass)

Matthew Chavez (alto sax)

Special Guests:

Akina Adderly, voice

Zell Miller III, poetry
