Nordic Lights: Inscape Chamber Orchestra
UMBC presents the Inscape Chamber Orchestra, led by conductor Richard Scerbo and featuring soprano Mandy Brown.
Their performance features:
• Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Fog for 13 instruments, written as a 90th birthday tribute to architect Frank Gehry. The work is a fantasy around the Prelude from J.S. Bach’s Partita in E (BWV 1006), the first piece of music Salonen and Gehry heard in the Walt Disney Concert Hall while it was under construction.
• Kaija Saariaho’s mesmerizing Quatre Instants.
• Carl Nielsen’s Symphony No. 6 “Sinfonia semplice,” transcribed by Hans Abrahamsen for chamber orchestra.
Founded in 2004 by artistic director Richard Scerbo, Inscape Chamber Orchestra is pushing the boundaries of classical music with riveting performances that reach across genres and generations, and transcend the confines of the traditional classical concert experience. With its flexible roster and unique brand of programming, this critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated group of high energy master musicians has quickly established itself as one of the premier performing ensembles in the Washington, D.C. region and beyond.
$15 general admission, $10 seniors, $5 students.
