2024 TUTTI Festival to Feature DOUGLAS HEDWIG’s “Hymn & Dance” for Orchestra
On Thursday March 21, 2024 at 7:30 PM Eastern (EST), the Dennison University Symphony Orchestra will perform the Ohio Premiere of “Hymn & Dance” for string orchestra by American composer, Douglas Hedwig. Part of the 2023 TUTTI Festival, the work will be conducted by Dr. Philip Rudd. TUTTI is a week-long festival celebrating new music and art, bringing artists across disciplines to Denison and the central Ohio community.
“Hymn & Dance” (2017) comprises the second and third movements of Douglas Hedwig’s three-movement work, “Movable Borders.” Movable Borders incorporates elements of world music within the context of contemporary music styles and traditions. Stylistic “fusion” is central to the conception of the work, with the intent to evoke a “borderless” aural sense of transnational culture, color and flavor. Composed in 2016–2017, the work is published by Da Vinci Editions [https://davinci-edition.com/product/dv-12026/]
